Mission Pacific Recycling Program
InterContinental Fiji Golf Resort & Spa has joined forces with Mission Pacific, a program dedicated to the recovery and recycling of PET bottles and aluminium cans. Operated by Coca-Cola Europacific Partners Fiji, in partnership with Natural Waters of Viti Ltd. and the Motibhai Group of Companies, this initiative aims to reduce the environmental impact of their operations by establishing responsible recycling avenues for beverage packaging. The Mission Pacific Program is at the forefront of promoting sustainability and enhancing recycling rates in Fiji. We take great pride in supporting this endeavour as a responsible tourism operator.
Through this partnership, we work alongside Coca-Cola Europacific Partners Fiji, Natural Waters of Viti Ltd., and the Motibhai Group of Companies to reduce our environmental impact. We ensure that the beverage packaging we use has a responsible and sustainable pathway once it's no longer needed. The Mission Pacific Program is dedicated to fostering sustainable practices and increasing recycling rates in Fiji, and we are proud to play our part as responsible tourism operators.
In our daily operations, we segregate PET bottles and aluminium cans into dedicated bulk bags, which Mission Pacific collects and transports to their Bottle Buy Back Centre in Kinoya for processing. These containers are then sorted, counted, and prepared for overseas shipment for further processing. It is also worth noting that the financial proceeds from this recycling initiative are directed into staff gratuities, ensuring that our colleagues are beneficiaries of our sustainability efforts. This program is a testament to our commitment to promoting recycling and minimizing single-use plastic waste in Fiji.
Mission Pacific has been a stalwart in sustainability since 1999, and its reach continues to expand, advocating for the environment and involving more individuals, schools, towns, and municipalities in their program. At InterContinental Fiji Golf Resort & Spa, we believe in the shared responsibility for sustainability and remain dedicated to creating a cleaner and greener Fiji.
