FNPF-owned IHG Fiji Hotels partners with Palas Auto Group to invest in Electric Vehicles

IHG Journey To Tomorrow

2nd May 2024 (Natadola, Fiji): FNPF-owned IHG Fiji Hotels & Resorts, owned by the Fiji National Provident Fund (FNPF), is taking significant steps towards environmental sustainability with the introduction of electric vehicles (EVs) into its fleet.

Today, the first electric vehicles were received at InterContinental Fiji Golf Resort & Spa, marking a milestone in the hotel group's commitment to reducing carbon emissions and promoting eco-friendly practices across its properties.

The adoption of electric vehicles by FNPF-owned IHG Fiji Hotels reflects a global trend towards sustainable transportation. As the world moves towards achieving net-zero carbon emissions, the demand for EVs is rising sharply. According to Goldman Sachs Research, EVs are projected to constitute about half of new car sales worldwide by 2035

Lachlan Walker, Portfolio General Manager – IHG Hotels & Resorts, FNPF Owned Hotels, said “Renewing our fleet with Electric Vehicles and implementing EV-charging stations at InterContinental Fiji Golf Resort & Spa and Grand Pacific Hotel Suva is an important step towards our commitment to environmental sustainability.

Through our partnership with Palas Auto Group, we're ensuring that business travel by our colleagues across Fiji will be on electricity and we will play our part in reducing carbon emissions for the country.”

Vikas Rajput, Head of Admin & Finance at Palas Auto Group, said “We're honoured to join forces with FNPF-owned IHG Fiji Hotels & Resorts. This partnership underscores our shared commitment to environmental sustainability and aligns with the rising demand for eco-friendly vehicles in Fiji.

Together, we aim to create a seamless and environmentally friendly experience for travellers, contributing to a greener future and bringing us closer to our vision of widespread EV adoption.”

FNPF-owned IHG Fiji Hotels & Resorts have purchased three are fully electric vehicles, two will be based at InterContinental Fiji Golf Resort & Spa and one will be based at the Grand Pacific Hotel Suva.

The introduction of EVs into the FNPF-owned IHG Fiji Hotels & Resorts fleet is part of a broader strategy to embrace sustainable practices and support Fiji's transition towards a low-carbon economy.
