Fiji’s Landmark Hotels Glow Red in Global Tribute for World Heart Month

2nd September 2025 (Suva, Fiji): Fiji’s most iconic heritage hotel, the Grand Pacific Hotel Suva, was illuminated in red last night to mark the official launch of World Heart Month 2025. The lighting ceremony, officiated by the Minister for Health and Medical Services, Hon. Dr. Ratu Atonio Lalabalavu, was held in partnership with Cure Kids Fiji, Heart Heroes Fiji and the Sai Prema Foundation.

The Grand Pacific Hotel Suva stands as the focal point of this national initiative, while InterContinental Fiji Golf Resort & Spa and Holiday Inn Suva have also joined the global Shine for World Heart Day campaign by illuminating select areas of their properties in solidarity.

The illumination is part of the World Heart Federation’s Shine for WHD campaign, which sees landmarks across continents light up in red throughout September. The symbolic glow highlights the urgent need to raise awareness of cardiovascular disease, the world’s leading cause of death, and calls on individuals and communities to prioritise heart health.

“The Grand Pacific Hotel Suva has always been a symbol of Fiji’s history and resilience. To see it illuminated in red, alongside InterContinental Fiji Golf Resort & Spa and Holiday Inn Suva, connects Fiji with iconic landmarks around the world in a powerful message of awareness. Every heartbeat matters, and we are proud to stand with the Ministry of Health & Medical Services in Fiji and our partners in shining this light,” comments Lachlan Walker, Regional General Manager, Fiji & Pacific, IHG Hotels & Resorts. “We are especially grateful to our partners at Encore ANZPAC for their support in making this illumination possible.”

The ‘Shine for World Heart Day’ campaign invites landmarks across continents to light up in red throughout September, creating a global canvas of recognition and unity.

The month-long illumination ensures that the message resonates widely, offering a daily reminder to guests, colleagues and the wider community about the importance of prevention, early detection and healthier lifestyle choices.

This initiative is delivered in partnership with the Ministry of Health and Medical Services, Cure Kids Fiji, Heart Heroes Fiji and the Sai Prema Foundation, reinforcing the collective effort to promote heart health and wellness across Fiji.
