IHG® Shelter in a Storm; based in London, helps hotels support guests, colleagues and local communities in times of need. A key element of IHG’s disaster response is the IHG® Shelter Fund, built up continuously through fundraising activities in the hotels and corporate offices throughout the year and enables quick action as soon as disaster strikes to provide vital assistance.
As a result of the continued global support from all IHG® properties, the Fund was able to respond very quickly and organise cyclone relief packs for all InterContinental Fiji and Holiday Inn Suva staff.
The management team have provided FJ$70,000 to the immediate organisation of relief packs for the InterContinental Fiji and Holiday Inn Suva staff, in three tiers of assistance – hygiene, food and shelter.
An additional donation of FJ$20,000 has also been distributed through our disaster relief partner CARE. CARE is currently deploying support on the ground for all those affected, as well as ensuring emergency kits have been put together for the local community.

InterContinental Fiji and Holiday Inn Suva believe that providing assistance in times of disaster helps align with the role of hotels in our communities.

InterContinental Fiji Golf Resort & Spa and the Holiday Inn Suva are owned by The Fiji National Provident Fund (FNPF) and dedicated to supporting the nearby local communities in times of need. The resort has been working with the communities since it opened in 2009 and also runs a long-term ‘Community Care’ fund which finances numerous projects. The IHG® Shelter in a Storm has been activated twice before – during the April 2012 flooding and during the aftermath of Cyclone Evan in 2013.
