Over previous years the tour has raised over $20,000 Fijian dollars for local schools and distributed over $10,000 dollars worth of NRL clothing and equipment to schools and local communities. Last year alone six different schools and local communities benefited from their visit.
The tour will feature the rugby league coaching clinics at local schools and will host the Rugby League Fiji Secondary Schools 9s competition or open 9s competition that will be held at Lawaqa Park this Fiji Day. As part of their initiative the program will also allow for the awarding of two major rugby scholarships that will be handed to the two most promising players.
The main event will be the Footy for Fiji Fundraiser Event at InterContinental Fiji, a rare opportunity to meet legends of rugby league at a night that will include entertainment guest speakers, and auctions with great prizes. This event will help raise funds to upgrade sporting equipment for local schools and communities throughout Fiji.
“The resort has supported the “Footy for Fiji” tour for three years and it’s exciting to watch the NRL greats unveil rugby talent in our local communities,” said Director of Conference & Events, David Pearson. “InterContinental Fiji is honored to be involved in this initiative, which will inspire our up and coming stars to keep chasing the dream,” he said.”
Since pre-opening the InterContinental Fiji Golf Resort has been working closely with the local schools in Natadola to help fund numerous projects through arranged guests visits and donations by from the hotel and in-house guests.
